New edited book: The United States and the Future of Europe

On 9 April 2025, Springer published the English-language edited book “The United States and the Future of Europe: Views from the Capitals”. The work brings together contributions from 41 European capitals, including all EU member states and selected neighbouring countries. The anthology analyses how transatlantic relations are perceived in the respective countries. One of the editors is Prof Dr Michael Kaeding, holder of the Jean Monnet Chair for European Integration and European Policy at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

The aim of the volume is to present the influence of the United States on the future development of Europe from multiple perspectives. To this end, academics from all over Europe provide country analyses that deal with questions of strategic autonomy, security and industrial policy challenges, global technology competition and the transatlantic relationship in the context of climate change. The publication places a special focus on the effects of a possible second term of Donald Trump on the European Union and its ability to act in foreign policy.
