Last 29 April, an important meeting took place on the Duisburg campus of the University of Duisburg-Essen, which offered first-time voters a platform as part of the campaign for the upcoming European elections. The event was organised by the Chair of European Integration and European Policy in cooperation with the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Institute of Political Science and the NRW School of Governance. At the “Watch Party” event, students and guests watched the Maastricht debate between the leading European candidates together.
Before the debate began, experts had the opportunity to talk to first-time voters. Prof Dr Michael Kaeding, Dr Alex Hoppe and Dr Kristina Weissenbach talked to the participants and asked them questions about the European elections and their expectations of the EU. The experts exchanged information with the guests about elections, election debates and the election process of the Presidency of the European Commission.
Participants from Duisburg and Cologne connected via Zoom to share their thoughts and views on the candidates, parties and issues of the upcoming European elections. In order to capture the opinions and preferences of the participants, a Metimeter survey was conducted, which enabled interactive voting.
