On the Tuesday after the European elections (11 June 2024), the University of Duisburg-Essen, the Institute of Political Science and the Chair of European Integration & European Policy held an election roundtable.
Prof Dr Michael Kaeding, holder of the Chair of European Integration & European Politics, Prof Dr Susanne Pickel, holder of the Chair of Comparative Politics, and Prof Nils Ringe, PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison discussed the results of the election, the implications for the upcoming European Parliament and the impact on national politics, especially in Germany. Of particular interest were the different voter turnout, the electoral successes on the right fringe of the parliament and also the possible composition of the political groups that will now be formed again, as well as the upcoming election of the Commission President and what can be expected in the future.
